Only in Jekyll...

Gabby occasionally has to play soccer games in Jekyll Island...which is this tiny little island off the coast of southern Georgia. It can be a pain because it takes about an hour and a half to get there, and her games always seem to be in the early morning...but when it comes down to it, we absolutely love it there...and, I have no problem turning one soccer game on Saturday morning into an entire weekend...lol.

This weekend was a bit different, Gabby's dad's birthday was on Friday so we couldn't leave early (and technically I was supposed to be in NYC, so wasn't planning on being here for the game), so we got up early Saturday morning, loaded up the car with coolers and dogs (who got to go to daycare for the day) and headed to JI for a 9:30 game.

And because God loves me, and my trip to NYC had to be postponed....he made sure I had something to look forward to when I got there....this weekend just happened to be the 6th annual Shrimp & Grits festival. Praise Jesus. And let me tell you....it was awesome. And it totally made up for a miserable, freezing cold soccer game! I convinced some of the other parents to head over to the festival with us for lunch and we had sooo much fun!

And as you can tell...the girls had no problem getting into the action either. hahaha.

It was really fun to show everyone all of our favorite little shops, and to shop at all the booths set up for the festival.

But I can tell you right now...the highlight of my day was going to The Commisary. It is the best little shop on JI and has all the best sauces, salsas, dressings, etc. that are made just for them. We got their awesome Peach salsa, but this one is my favorite...and I will go to JI just to get it!!!! :)

I love it so much I bought two. :)

Love

Yes, it may seem silly to LOVE seasoning....but I seriously LOVE this stuff....it's my favorite. I mean,  seriously....it's called Soul Seasoning! How can you not love that??

The problem?? You can only buy it at Winn Dixie...and they have been back-ordered for months....so yeah, I bought all they had the moment I saw it. Gabby looked at me like I had lost my mind...I didn't care.

And I'm even sending a bottle to a friend who has no Winn Dixie :)

MIA

So sorry I have been totally MIA!!!

So much has happened in the last few weeks....

Gabby started high school...which she loves!!!

Which of course we had to celebrate with a trip to our favorite ice cream shop....the Dreamette!!!

I started my new job (which I LOVE!) and soccer season has kicked into full gear (which is VERY time consuming!)!!!  Gabby is practicing 3 nights a week, with games on weekends, and this weekend we are participating in a tournament. Our team always does the First Coast Labor Day Shootout here in Jax, and the girls love it....plus it is a nice (close) start to the official season!!

The girls had two games today...with only a 2 hour break between...so we all ran to the Loop for a quick lunch to stay close to the fields. We have two more tomorrow (all have been on the other side of town) so wish us luck!!! Monday I finally get to relax and enjoy my holiday weekend. hahaha

So....I hope everyone has a nice enjoyable Labor Day weekend doing what they enjoy (we obviously love hanging out at soccer fields)!!!

Breakfast of Champions

My fast, easy, high protein breakfast staple....

I know it's not much...but it totally fills me up!!! It's a Body by Vi Nutritional shake (my sister sells them) mixed with Almond Milk, Banana,  peanut butter, and Heshey's Syrup. Soooo good. I also vary it up by mixing the protein powder with OJ, or instant coffee for the cappachino feel. MMMMM.

So here's the recipe:

Liz's Breakfast of Champions

Mix in blender:
1 c Silk Almond Milk (unsweetened) (or whatever milk you prefer...even water!)
1 whole Banana
1 spoonful Peanut Butter (or whatever you prefer)
1 squirt (roughly Tbsp) Hershey's Syrup
2 rounded scoops Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake Mix

Blend and enjoy! :)

Lunch time is yum time :)

I know it doesn't look like much, but let me assure you....this is soooo good.

I had some grilled chicken left over from a cookout the other night, cherry tomatoes from the farmer's market, basil from the garden and fresh mozzarella balls in the fridge, so I tossed them all together in a pan to heat then poured in a bowl....so light and satisfying! One tip though....definitely wait till the last seconds before you add the mozz or you will have a mess! :)
